Which Linux distribution (distro) should I use? Answers
A Great Beginner Distro - Linux Mint with either Cinnamon or MATE Desktop Environment (MATE is recommended for beginners).
Another Beginner Distro - Ubuntu-mate Linux a user-friendly operating system that “just works”.
Another Beginner Distro - MEPIS Linux a user-friendly operating system that “just works”.
Another Beginner Distro - antiX Linux MX-17.4.1 for older, less powerful x86 machines.
Another Beginner Distro - Puppy Linux is extraordinarily small, yet quite full-featured.
The standard Ubuntu Linux distribution is NO LONGER RECOMMENDED for beginners, because of Unity and GNOME 3. However, the more traditional styled desktop environment using Ubuntu repositories and MATE at this site is a good choice.
